Role Overview

We’re seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Commercial Legal Counsel to join our growing Legal team in South Africa. In this business-critical role, you will draft, negotiate, and manage commercial contracts, supporting Scytale’s daily operations while ensuring compliance with local laws and regulations. You’ll work closely with multiple departments, subsidiaries, and external counsel, balancing legal requirements with business objectives to drive success.


What You’ll Do

  • Draft & Negotiate: Draft, review, negotiate, and finalize a variety of commercial contracts, including production, sponsorship, licensing, partnerships, influencers, and services agreements.
  • Advise: Provide practical, business-oriented legal advice on labor law, disputes, and legal risk assessments.
  • Collaborate: Work with internal teams to ensure adherence to contracting policies and procedures.
  • Manage External Counsel: Oversee relationships with external legal counsel, including assignments, timelines, and budgets.
  • Improve Processes: Develop and refine standard templates, business processes, and internal policies.
  • Ensure Compliance: Collaborate with compliance teams to ensure adherence to applicable laws and regulations.
  • Support Operations: Provide ongoing legal support across departments and business units.
  • Lead Projects: Take the lead on or contribute to special legal projects as needed.

What You Bring

Experience

  • 4-6 years of experience in a high-tech company’s legal department or the commercial/high-tech department of a leading law firm.

Skills

  • Proven ability to independently draft, negotiate, and finalize complex agreements.
  • Exceptional communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
  • Strong organizational and analytical capabilities.
  • Business acumen to balance legal requirements with company objectives.

Language

Native-level English proficiency, as most legal work is conducted in English.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Law from a leading academic institution; qualified to practice law in South Africa.
