Role Overview
We’re seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Legal Specialist to support our in-house legal function. In this role, you will assist with drafting, reviewing, and managing commercial contracts, while developing your expertise in technology, data protection, and compliance. You’ll work closely with multiple departments, balancing legal requirements with business objectives to drive success.
Requirements
What You Bring
Experience: 2 years post articles experience in a high-tech company’s legal department or the commercial/high-tech department of a law firm.
Skills:
- Proven ability to independently draft, negotiate, review and finalize complex agreements.
- Strong communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
- Strong organizational and analytical capabilities.
- Business acumen to balance legal requirements with company objectives.
Language: Native-level English proficiency, as most legal work is conducted in English.
Education:
- LLB (or equivalent law degree)
- Admitted attorney in South Africa
Responsibilities
What You’ll Do
Draft & Review Contracts
- Draft and review commercial agreements, including NDAs, SaaS agreements, DPAs, and vendor contracts
- Support contract negotiations and help manage the contract lifecycle
Support Legal Advice
- Assist in providing practical, business-focused legal advice on commercial, corporate, and general legal matters
- Help identify and assess legal risks and escalate where needed
Work Cross-Functionally
- Partner with sales, product, compliance, and operations teams to support business initiatives
- Help ensure contracts follow internal policies and processes
Compliance & Data Protection
- Support legal aspects of compliance with frameworks such as SOC 2, ISO 27001, and GDPR
- Assist with data protection and privacy-related matters
Process Improvement
- Assist in improving contract templates, internal policies, and legal processes
- Support efforts to make legal workflows more efficient and scalable
